What does shame do to a woman?

Shame sucks life from a woman!

Carrie hung her head. Premarital sex, exotic dancer, and only she knew more of the sex stories. All were part of her résumé of shame. However, her actions changed when she met Jesus. But the shameful scenes dogged her thoughts in the bondage of a cycle of self-hatred.

Enable me, Lord, to shift—from shameful bondage to the Truth. And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. (John 8:32 NASB)

Maybe your story is a bit different than Carries. You didn’t act the sex part out, but you read the fictional romance novels. You know, the books where women race to one set of arms after another and end up in bed. Or maybe you viewed XXX movies, spent hours coveting on Facebook, or clicked on inappropriate websites? Did it take your mind to a land of fantasy?

What appetite did they feed? Loneliness, lust, boredom, or bitterness?

And maybe your consequences are not as severe as Carrie’s. Yet sin is sin. The enemy delights in getting us distracted and detoured from living out the Truth. We get off-course. Recall shameful scenes. Satan whispers words to self-attack, which cast doubt that God forgives us. And that wicked doubt twist leads us back into deception and into bondage.

I coached. “Carrie, have you confessed your sins?” She had. “Carrie, will you accept God’s Word as the Truth?”

I said, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9 NASB). And You shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free, Carrie.

Notice the last word in the verse is free. Merriam Webster Online Dictionary states free is “not subject to the control or domination of another.” Whoa, which are you, slave woman in bondage or woman of freedom?”

Accepting the Bible as Truth is a choice. Only Carrie, and only you, can give it a thumbs-up. If not, the enemy has you under his thumb.

Does the enemy keep taunting you with past sinful scenes?
