Let’s talk about looks.
While coaching women, I have heard the stories of how women feel when a man gives them a look or stares at them. How do you feel when a man looks at you?
Somehow and somewhere in life, women have picked up a lie that it’s our fault if a man looks at us.
And I want to interrupt that thought.
- How do you feel when a man looks at you?
A woman came to meet with me at a conference. She sat down across from me and said, “Last week, I stood next to my car pumping gas, and I looked over to the next pump across from me, and there stood a man checking me out.”
“I felt uncomfortable,” she said.
“Did he touch you?” I asked.
“No.”
“Did he state anything?” I asked.
“No.”
“So let me get this right, he looked at you, and you felt bad about that?” I asked.
“Yes,” she stated.
- How do you feel when a man looks at you?
I did some digging with coaching into the woman’s story. We found the story and the lie that stopped her from going forward.
- This woman wanted to wear bright colors.
- But she was fearful she might get looks. After being coached.
- The next day she wore a lovely color of sky-blue.
- I complimented her on that.
And another woman’s story.
She had lost weight. Other women started to tell her, “You don’t need to lose anymore.”
And she said, “I was starting to get more attention. I began to self-sabotage.”
I coached her too. She recalled old lies from her childhood. Then she added, “I wear modest clothes; my skirts are not short, and I do not let cleavage show.”
Why is it women believe if a man looks at them, they are at fault?
Ladies, we cannot control anyone’s eyes but our own. And we cannot control where a person looks. And the Word does caution and state a man must guard his eyes, but that is his job. Not ours.
So why in the world do you think it is your fault if a man checks you out?
- Are you covered without cleavage showing?
- Are your clothes not too clingy or tight?
- Are you covering up your bottom?
- If you are dressed and modest, you have done all you can.
You cannot control anyone’s eyes and where they land.
But you can control how you respond. And how you feel?
Are you emotionally immature in this area? Seek coaching. So you can become more you and comfortable in your own skin.
