Are you living in denial?

Betsy walked in, sat down, and said, “I am stuck.”

Betsy had been married for almost 20 years. She learned recently of her husband’s porn addiction when she asked him, What was he viewing on his tablet? She was grieved to the core of her being.

(And women be aware too if you are viewing porn. It ruins lives. Get help—like now!)

Betsy shared how she wandered and walked from room to room in their home. And on one day, she sat on the floor and ate a bag of chips.

She felt:

  • violated
  • Lied to
  • Betrayed
  • Used
  • Not good enough
  • Dirty.

I coached her to be real,

“You are hurt, Betsy. All that pent-up pain wants to be expressed.

Don’t deny it. It’ll send you into denial if you mask it. You’re grieving.”

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth” (Psalm 145:18 NASB).

And to be Truthful to God is mandatory. Since we cannot hide anything from God, even our pain.

I asked her, “What do you feel? “

“Honestly, I am angry. Hurt. HOT! Ticked. Frustrated”.

I was proud of her for voicing. I asked, “What would you like to do?”

She said, “I want to talk, seek counseling and coaching.”

Next, she talked, vented and wrote down her impressions.

  • Anger.
  • Sad.
  • Worried.

What did Betsy do next? Betsy voiced. Betsy wrote. Betsy prayed. Betsy stepped right into a counselor’s office and stayed on with coaching.

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth(Psalm 145:18 NASB).
