Fear can be a monster in our life, so how do we shrink it?

Try these three steps to bust through its stronghold.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind(II Timothy 1:7, KJV)

Power. Love. Sound Mind.

Fear was all over the chambers of my heart knocking me down, robbing me of joy, peace, purpose, focus, and forward living. Even though I lived in a fear-breeding atmosphere I was determined to shrink fear out of my life. So when fear came knocking, I purposely chose this verse to wage war against fear, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I made a decision not to open the door to fear and allow it to march in, sit down and start a conversation. I stayed alert and was proactive.

What does fear do to our bodies? I came upon this verse, “Men’s hearts failing them for fear…” Luke 21:26. It caused me to pause; especially after reading medical reports stating fear can lead to heart attacks and with my family genes.

Within a frame of three years I lost my father and youngest brother to heart attacks, and another brother underwent a triple bypass. I visited my cardiologist for a checkup and was told,My plumbing side of my heart looked good; yet, the electrical side wasn’t beating in sync.” He recommended medicine and a heart ablation. I didn’t have peace with either suggestion.

Three years later I visited my cardiologist for a round of tests. Pleasantly surprised the Doctor told me my heart was beating at a normal rhythm. I knew who healed my heart beats, through His power, love, and choosing to keep a sound mind.

For me fear had been a tagalong way too long. Only God knew the inner heart workings of my father and brother.

God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

  1. Recognize when fear sets up camp in your mind.
  2. Frisk the thought with the Truth, God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
  3. Speak Truth…I want power, love, and a sound mind.
  4. Repeat–until you sense peace.
