Where does a woman look to find her value?
Does she find it in:
- her career
- her bank account
- her children
- her spouse
- her marriage
- her home
- her education
- her looks
- her performance
Where do you look to find your value?

The Truth says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31 NASB).
I went outside to walk. I looked up and there at the end of the roof perched a little bird, high and lifted up for the whole world to see. As I looked at it, it chirped. In time it would fly, swoop over ponds, eat bugs and worms, sing its lovely song, plus leave droppings. As I watched the bird, I thought of this verse, “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father…”
The Truth is, your value comes from your Maker. You’re made in the image of a Holy God.
If that obscure bird took a nosedive off the ledge of my two-story apartment building, God would see it. He has a watchful eye. The rest of the verse says, “…But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t fear; you’re more valuable than many sparrows.”
More valuable. You ask, How so?
Again, the Truth says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.”
The Word doesn’t say God counts the bird’s feathers. But the verse does say He counts His created image bearers’ hair, (yet) He also knows when a bird falls. God is that personal and intimate. He hones in on our body and life details.
When my daughter asked me to attend her ultrasound appointment, I saw God’s handiwork up-close. I was thrilled to be asked. I gasped in awe to see a baby created in the image of God right there on a monitor screen. I asked the ultrasound tech, “What’s the area near her head that looks like sparklers?” She answered, “It’s her hair.”
My granddaughter’s hair was lighting up. I came home and looked up this verse. I wrote my granddaughter’s name in my Bible. God knows the very hairs of your head. And He commands us not to fear, as we are of more value than many sparrows.
- God’s watchful eye knows all.
- I am created in His image & have a soul.
- He knows my daily hair count!
- He loves you and me and tells us not to fear!
God’s got me. He’s got you. He desires us to trust Him with His enormous love and believe in our value. Put a stop to the “not good enough” “what if” and “worry wort” mind traps.
