Are you hurting from painfilled relationships?
This is taken from book #4 of Enable Me, Lord, to Shift series.
We long, desire, want, and hunger for relationships.
We strive to connect.
Bond. Link. Share. Associate. Yet life brings us no certainty when it comes to people. Humans have free will.
Only you can control you and change you, and only I can control me and change me. So what will we choose?
- Choose to grow and learn to love well in relationships through Christ’s enabling and everlasting love.
- Or choose to be self-sufficient, selfish and deny His help.
Which do you choose?
If we do not invite Christ’s Word into our heart (mind/volition), then skewed, sin-filled thoughts dominate our decisions, and a domino effect of destructive decisions decimate our relationships. Our thinking becomes all about me. Pride and self-sufficiency slither in and selfish thoughts and actions multiply.
Our lies pile up: It’s all about me. I will not trust. I will not put my heart out there. Withdraw. Hide. If I don’t take care of me, who will?
Besides, I’m not good enough. Bad. Loser. Worthless. Jealous. Greedy. I’m a failure. My life doesn’t matter. I have nothing to offer. I can’t and I will never change. Plus it is your fault.
Our lies spin on and on, weaving a web of deception and destruction that sabotage our relationships: anxiety, anger, abuse, addictions, and/or passive-aggressive behavior that incites divisions, disasters, divorce, and sometimes suicide.
The enemy rejoices. Separates human beings. Isolates. He gets us on our backs like sheep. Stuck. Sick. Legs straight up in the air.
If you are waging war with believing lies, I suggest that when you finish this book you read Book Number 2 of the Enable Me, Lord, to Shift series. That book addresses our thought life.
Each of us is created in the image of the Holy God. Relationships are integral to Our Heavenly Father.
Daily He is in relationship with His Son and the Holy Spirit. They are three in one. All three are equal and powerful as the Trinity: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three not only enjoy the only perfect, consistent, loving relationship in existence day in and day out; God the Father, Son, and Spirit share an eternal perfect, consistent, loving relationship.
And we are God’s image bearers; therefore, we long for connection and conversation and to be known for our True identity as our relational God created us. If we have a personal relationship with the Lord—meaning that we’ve recognized that we are sinners and in need of a Savior and have prayed to receive Him as our Lord and Savior—the Holy Spirit Himself lives within us and seals us until we meet the Lord either through death or His second coming.
Back to our free will.
We choose how we behave.
When it comes to relationships, we must examine our heart and actions.
Someday we will bow before Father God and be held accountable for our behavior. May that thought cause us to be serious about changing—relationships are His gifts to us.
